Mrs Gerta Brooks Passes Sunday; Rites Wednesday

Mrs Gerta Roberts Brooks, 67, of the Bluff section, Hot Springs, Rt 2, died unexpectedly Sunday, August 24, 1969 while visiting in Hendersonville.

A native of Bonnie Hill, she was the widow of David O Brooks, who died last Wednesday.

Surviving are seven daughters: Mrs Selma Watson of Louisville, KY, Mrs Sylvia Finley and miss Nina Brooks, both of Hot Springs Rt 2, Mrs Olive Hall of Elizabeth, Ind, Mrs Jane Dunlap and Mrs Mary Sams, both of Hendersonville and Mrs Juanita Fletcher of Asheville; four sons, Lionel and Tommy, both of Hot Springs, Fred of Hendersonville and Rex Brooks of the US Army; two brothers, Fred and Frank Roberts, both of Laurens, SC; two sisters, Mrs Evie Lyons of Laurens and Mrs Martha Chumley of Greenwood, SC and 19 grandchildren.

Services were held at 2 pm Wednesday in Zion Baptist Church, of which she was a member.

The Rev Sam Austin and the Rev Estel Strickland officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Rochell Parker, Dempsey Woody, Cecil Pangle, Dannie Lusk, Jack Caldwell and Francis Kent.
