Sylvia I. Finley, 81, of Bluff Mountain Road, Hot Springs, died Sunday, June 25, 2006, at the Canton Christian Convalescent Center.
She was a native of Madison County, the daughter of the late David Brooks and Gertie Roberts Brooks. She was the wife of William H. Finley, who died in 1978. She was also preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers. She was a teacher for Head Start and a member of Zion Baptist Church in Bluff. She enjoyed reading and gardening.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Finley Burns and husband, George, of Hot Springs and Lisa Finley Owens and husband, Jimmy, of Hendersonville; a son, Jeffrey Finley, of Hot Springs; three sisters, Jean Dunlap and Nina Lee Brooks Greenville and Mary Sams of Hendersonville; three brothers, Lionel Brooks of Hot Springs, Rex Brooks of Tennessee and Fred Brooks of Hendersonville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the Lynn First Baptist Church in Polk County. The Rev. Jimmy Owens will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday at the church.
