Robert G. Zimmerman Sr., 78, of 496 Mountain Road, Newville, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at the Swaim Health Center, Newville.

Born July 24, 1926, in Carlisle, he was a son of the late Laura B. (Raudabaugh) Riggleman and the late Charles Riggleman, Sr.

Mr. Zimmerman was a Navy veteran of World War II. He had worked for the Allegheny Pepsi-Bottling Co., Newville, for 13 years and was a transportation driver for the Amish for 25 years. He also operated a dairy farm for many years.

He was a member of the Newburg First Church of God.

Mr. Zimmerman is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bena G. (Hocker) Zimmerman; seven sons, Robert G. Zimmerman Jr., Fred E. Zimmerman, James E. Zimmerman and Richard L. Zimmerman, all of Newville, David H. Zimmerman and John H. Zimmerman, both of Newburg, and Barry S. Zimmerman of Shippensburg; three daughters, Linda M. Mixell of Shippensburg and Sandra L. Thompson and Marjorie D. Zimmerman, both of Newville; three brothers, Charles Riggleman Jr. of Carlisle, Curtis Riggleman of Newville and Clinton Riggleman of Columbia; two sisters, Anna Mae Wolf of Carlisle and Tillie Holloway of Shermans Dale; 20 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leroy Gutshall, William Riggleman and Dale Spidle; and a sister, Marie Smith.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. John Byers officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, North Middleton Township.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
