Melvin Franz Schlichtemeier, 89, passed away at his home, Saturday, February 21, 2009. He was born April 25, 1919 and raised on the family homestead. On May 20, 1919, he received the gift of Holy Baptism with Pastor Albert Cholcher officiating and became a child of God. On May 28, 1933 having been instructed by Pastor Albert Cholcher, he publicly confessed his faith and was confirmed. He received the precious gift of the Lord's life-giving body and blood. Melvin was an avid hunter, trapper, and fisherman, an enthusiastic Husker football fan, and most of all, he loved his family. He married Gladys Wendelin on October 4, 1939 and shared sixty-nine wonderful years together.

Melvin is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Hannah Schlichtemeier; two brothers, Ernest Schlichtemeier and Harold Schlichtemeier; four sisters, Esther Herpolsheimer, Irma Reiss, Gertrude Meinke, and Velma Schachenmeier; and one son-in-law, Larry Larsen. He is survived by his wife, Gladys; three daughters: Kathy and Randy Brolhorst of Lincoln, Betty Larsen of Omaha, and Pat and Tom Thompson of Lincoln; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at 1 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Kramer, Nebraska. Pastor Wade Mattsfield officiating. Hymns by congregation: "Abide With Me," "A Mighty Fortress," "I Know That My Redeemer Lives," "How Great Thou Art." Organist: Mrs. Jolene Reetz.

Pallbearers: Lance Larsen, Michael Nadeau, Robert Armstrong, Michael Armstrong, Jason Brolhorst, Josh Brolhorst.

Interment in Lincoln Memorial Park.
