He grew to manhood in Lancaster County where he lived with his devoted parents, his brothers, and sisters. He attended the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and day school in Kramer. He was baptized February 17, 1907 by the Rev Lohr and was confirmed May 23, 1920 by Rev Cholcher. He was a faithful follower of the Lord and a friend to all.
On November 21, 1928 he was joined in marriage to Miss Ruth Ball of Crete. To this loving couple three children were born -- Jeralyn Ruth, thirteen; Gary Ernest, five; and Norma Jean, three years of age. This family lived on a farm two miles east of Kramer where Ernest worked diligently and untiringly for his family's welfare.
