Ora May Beard (Cheesman)was born Ora May Cheeseman near Hagerstown, Indiana on October 13, 1882. She recieved her education there and taught school in Indiana. She married Fred Beard on September 24, 1903 at the West River Friends Gathering place near Economy, In. She was the daughter of Wallace Cheesman b.13 Mar,1861 and America Josephine(nee Lumpkin) Cheesman b.1863-d.1925.m. 13 Mar, 1881. Ora May with Henry Fred Beard immigrated to Canada in 1908 loading all their worldly possessions in a Railroad Boxcar which took them to Milk River, Alberta, Canada. They homesteaded 160 acres about 5 miles east of Milk River. Ora May and Fred belonged to the Quaker Church but were enthusiastic workers in any church that needed help. Mrs Beard assisted in the Milk River Library for several years. She had five children, Henry,b.7-13-1904, Alma (Austin)b. 5-16-1910,Ralph,b. 10-22-1912, Edna (Thompson),b. 2-24-1916 and John, b.12-29-1918.
