John Robert Beard, son of Fred and Ora Beard was born on the farm at Milk River. John graduated from Milk River High School in 1938. He attended Normal College at Calgary from 1938-1939. He taught rural school three years in Alberta. He received an A.B. Degree in 1952 from the University of British Columbia and majored in French and Spanish languages. He earned an A.B. Degree from the University of Toronto in 1954. John worked as a Reference Assistant in 1954-1956 in the business and technical section in the Windsor, Ontario, public library. He earned his Ph. Degree of Library Science at Columbia University, New York City, New York. He held a position in the Library at Columbia University for many years. John retired and lived in New York City for the remainder of his life until he was not capable of managing his affairs. When he became unable to care for himself, his family moved him to Spokane, Washington to be near his daughter. John is survived by a son and a daughter, many grandchildren and great grand children. His final wishes were to be interred in the Milk River, Ab Cemetery to be near his parents Henry Fred and Ora May Beard. Back to his roots.
