Edna was born in Lethbridge in Feb, 1916. She lived in Milk River (on the homestaed) until 1923 when the Beard Family moved to Newberg, Ore. She attended grade shool in Newberg until her family moved back to Milk River in 1929 to live. This was during the depression and she had to commute 6 miles to school either by horseback, horse and buggy or an old model T Ford. Edna went through High School in the old red brick School. She earned spending money by helping her father (Fred) in the garden and selling fresh vegatables, especially his corn. She also collected gopher tails. She married Walter Thompson, a local farmer and son of George and Annie Thompson. Edna and Walt lived in Milk River until a move to Trail, B.C. and then Rossland B.C. where Walt worked at the smelter. Edna lived in Rossland B.C. along with other members of her family untill the war was over. Walt had joined the RCAF and was gone until the war was over. In 1946 Walt returned from the war and they purchased a Machine Shop in Westview B.C.(now Powell River). In 1953 Walt sold the Machine Shop and they moved to Parksville B.C. Walt passed away Dec 10, 1983. Edna was a world traveler, nurturer, craftswoman and loving grandmother, mother, sister, aunt and accomplished potterer. She dearly loved visits in later years from her sister Alma and her brother John. She lived a full adventurous life on her terms and she did it her way. She was loved by all her family. Her siblings were Henry Beard, Alma (Beard)(Atkinson)Austin, Ralph Beard and John Beard. Edna is finally at rest for all time with her beloved husband Walter.
