Walter Thompson was born to George and Annie(Osing)Thompson in the town of Milk River, Alberta. His siblings were Stewart, Herman, Georgie, Victor and Cecilia. He farmed with his father before moving to B.C. with Edna. He married Edna Alberta Beard in Shelby, Montana, Jan 17th, 1938. He was in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII. He worked at the smelter in Trail B.C. before joining the military. He and Edna moved to B.C. where he purchased a machine shop in West River(now Powell River). He operated this until he sold out and moved to Parksville in 1953. He lived there until his death in 1983. They had six children, David, Janet, Gerry, Donny, Cindy, and Libby. Walt is buried at the Knox United Church Cemetery, Parksville, B.C.
