Mrs. Elsie Pierce Sloan, 46, former resident of this city, died at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla., Thursday, Feburary 8 and her funeral was held at Temple Baptist Church Monday afternoon with the Rev. Jerry Spencer officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Steele with H.S. Smith Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs. Sloan was born at Steele September 24, 1921, the daughter of Mrs. Ethel Pierce and the late John Pierce, and attended the schools at Micola. On September 28, 1940, she was married to S.E. Dorr, who preceded her in death August 27, 1944.
In Caruthersville, on May 25, 1946, she was married to James Sloan, who died May 1, 1966. She was a member of the Baptist Church.
She leaves five sons, Charles L. Dorr of the U.S. Navy, Pensacola, Robert S. Dorr in VietNam with the U.S. Army, James Irving Sloan, in the Army and stationed at Fort Rucker, Ala., Johnny L. and Paul Dean Sloan of the home in Pensacola; her mother, Mrs. Pierce of this city; seven brothers, Howard Pierce of Colonia, N.J., Harold Pierce of Owensville, Mo., Jerry Pierce stationed in Japan with the U.S. Air Force, Donald, Jay R., Joe and Frank Pierce of Caruthersville and three sisters, Mrs. Shelby Jean Wray of Tacoma, Wash., Mrs. Marie Pratt and Mrs. Lawrence Carter of Caruthersville.
