Jay R. Pierce, 71, of Caruthersville, died March 18, 1994 at Baptist Central Hospital in Memphis. Born Feb. 5, 1923 in Micola, he was the son of John Robert and Ethel Smith Pierce. He attended school in Steele. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was awarded five Bronze Stars. He was retired from the Caruthersville Housing Authority and a member of Temple Baptist Church.
He is survived by a wife, Mrs. Jewell I. Linsman Pierce of Caruthersville; Two sons, Randall W. Pierce of Germantown, Tenn., and John L. Pierce of Morehead City, N.C.; Five brothers, Joe and Frank Pierce, both of Caruthersville, Harold Pierce of Charleston, Howard Pierce of Colonia, N.J., and Jerry Pierce of San Antonio; Two sisters, Laverne Carter of Caruthersville and Shelby Jean Wray of Hawaii; And five grandchildren, Andrea, Lesley, Jonathan, Weston and Jay D. Pierce.
Services were March 21 at 1 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church, the Rev. Jim Watkins and the Rev. B.H. Farnsworth officiating, with burial in Maple Cemetery, H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville in charge.
