She was the daughter of the late John Robert Pierce and Ethel Smith Pierce.
Attended the Steele, MO schools, graduating high school there.
On January 17, 1952 in Piggott, AR she was united in marriage to Mr. William B. Carter. He preceded her in death on October 9, 1993.
Laverne was a longtime cook for theCaruthersvile School System prior to her retirement. She was a member of theTemple Baptist Church of Caruthersville.
She loved being with her family, cooking, and loved baseball especially the St. Louis Cardinals.
She is survived by her daughter, Tina Johnson of Caruthersville, son, Joel Carter and wife Vicki of Caruthersville, 4 grandchildren, Joel Ryan "Bucky" Carter of Sioux Falls, SD, Jerry "Scooter" Johnson III of Caruthersville, Alexandra Carter of Nashville, TN and Brenton Carter of Caruthersvile, 1 sister, Shelby Jean Wray of Spanaway, WA, 2 brothers, Harold Pierce of Potosi, MO and Jerry Pierce of San Antonion, TX, and a number of other relatives and many, many friends.
She was preceded in death by 9 brothers, 4 sisters and 1 son in law, Jerry Johnson Jr.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at 2 p.m. in the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville with Rev. Kenny Lee officiating. The interment was in the Little Prairie Cemetery in Caruthersville. Pallbearers were Joel R. Carter, Joel E. Carter, Britton Carter, Steven Campbell, Jerry Johnson III and Tommy Stewart.
