OBITUARY
FREDERICK KNECHT
TROY - Frederick "Fritz" Knecht, 82, Troy, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at a Wathena nursing home.
Mr. Knecht worked for the Rock Island Railroad and later retired as a maintenance foreman from the Southern Pacific Railroad. He also was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was born Jan 10, 1919, in Leona, the son of Frederick C. and Emma A. Vandeveer Knecht. He was raised in Leona and attended school there.
Mr. Knecht was a member of the United Methodist Church and Post No. 55 of the American Legion in Troy, Post No. 1175 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Atchison, the National Rifle Association, National Travel Club and the American Association of Retired People.
No immediate family members survive.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Harman-Rhode Funeral Home in Troy. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Leona. Post No. 55 of the American Legion will conduct military honors at the graveside. Mr. Knecht will lie in state after 9 a.m. today at the funeral home, where visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Troy Ambulance Fund and sent in care of the funeral home.
