Marie A. Luoma, 85, Atchison, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 1997, at her home.
Services wil be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the home of her daughter, 1001 S. Seventh St. with the Rev. Robert Ziegler, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Leona.
There will be no formal visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Kitchen Fund or Trinity Lutheran Church Dream Fund. Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Luoma owned and operated a cafe in Leona for several years before moving to Atchison. She assisted her husband in managing the former Millrose Motel in Atchison and was the cook for Trinity Lutheran School for 12 years before retiring in 1962.
She was born Sept. 18, 1911, in Leona, the daughter of Fred C. and Emma A. Vandeveer Knecht. She attended grade school in Leona.
Mrs. Luoma was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Rebecca Circle of the church and was past president of the VFW Auxiliary to Post No. 1175. She was also a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League in Atchison.
She married Paul Luoma on June 15, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan. He died Sept. 3, 1992. She was also preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Lorraine Williams.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Johnson, Atchison; a stepdaughter, Janet Nance, Dearborn, Mich.; stepson, Roger Luoma, Northville, Mich.; two brothers, Arthur Knecht, Leona and Frederick Knecht, Troy; two grandchildren; and eight stepgreat grandchildren.
