Lloyd Christian Knecht was born February 28, 1914 on his grandfather's farm one mile west of Leona, Kansas. He was born in Brown County, Robinson Township, Kansas. He was the son of Frederick Christian Knecht and Emma Alberta Vandeveer Knecht. He was a twin.
In 1915, he is living on the farm with his parents but in 1918, his grandfather sold the farm and his father moved to Leona. However, by 1925, he was back on the farm. His father was renting the farm from the owner and had done so for several years.
Lloyd attended grade school at Leona and completed the eighth grade.
On October 24, 1936, he married Marjorie Mildred Kienzle at Hiawatha, Kansas. Together they had four children: Bonnie June, Betty Lou, Lloyd Leon and Frederick Wiliam.
He is shown as a truck driver in the 1940 U.S. Census. He had worked as a truck driver for several years the Leona Hardware/Truckline.
During WWII, he lived in Detroit, Michigan and lived there from 1941 until 1948 during which time he worked as a welder.
In 1942, his mother-in-law, Lydia Scofield Kienzle, moved to Detroit to live with him and his wife, Marjorie. Lydia lived with them for 14 years until her death in 1957.
After returning to Leona in 1948, he worked at the Leona Hardware store as a plumber and then at the Denton Hardware store as a plumber. He then started his own plumbing business and operated it for several years. Later he worked for LFM Manufacturing at Atchison, Ks and then as a mechanic/welder for the County of Doniphan. He retired at the age of 62 and lived the rest of his life in Leona.
Lloyd served several years as the Leona mayor and as a councilman. Lloyd was a member of the Leona Community Church. He was also a member of the Leona Sportsman Club.
He enjoyed raising cattle and chickens and tended a large garden.
Lloyd died on November 11, 1983 at the age of 69 from leukemia at St. Lukes hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He is buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, north of Leona, Kansas.

Lloyd C. Knecht, 69, Leona, past mayor and councilman, of that town, died late Friday at a Kansas City, Mo. hospital. He had been a patient for 10 days.
Services were held at 10 a.m. today at Highland Mortuary, with burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, north of Leona.
Mr. Knecht was born Feb. 28, 1914, at Leona [one mile west of Leona on his grandfather's farm] the son of Fred and Emma Vandevere [Vandeveer] Knecht, and spent most of his life in the Leona community where he was a mechanic until retiring in 1976.
He married Marjorie Kienzle in 1936 at Hiawatha. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Betty Bailes, Kansas City, Mrs. Bonnie Park, Olathe; two sons, Leon Knecht, Olathe, and Fred Knecht, Topeka, a sister, Mrs. Marie Luoma, Leona, three brothers, Floyd Knecht, St. Joseph, Frederick Knecht, Troy, and Arthur Knecht, Leona; 10 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.
