Excerpts, The Oklahoman, Nov 14, 1983: Oklahoma City Civic Leader, Betty Anthony Zahn Dies of Cancer at Age 66--Civic Leader Betty Lee Anthony Zahn, an inductee into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1973 and National Mother of the Year in 1971, died early Sunday of cancer. Her mother Lutie Anthony was State Mother of the Year in 1955.

Mrs Zahn was the daughter of C R Anthony, founder of the department store chain. Her husband, Fred H Zahn, 67, was an executive for the stores. One of her sons, Oklahoma City attorney, Tony Zahn, is a former city councilman.

In addition to her husband and her son, she is survived by her daughter, Betsy Zahn Thorpe, of OKC; sons, Larry Zahn, a professor of behaviorial science at University of California at Riverside; and Richard Zahn, a lieutenant in the Navy; and 13 grandchildren.

Born in Grace, Idaho, Mrs Zahn's accomplish-ments included serving as local president of the YWCA in 1958 and completing a six year term on the national board of the YWCA from the southern region.

After undergoing surgery 21 years ago to have malignant lumps removed from her breasts, Mrs Zahn and her husband became active on the Oklahoma County Cancer Committee. A member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority, she receiveOutstanding Panhellenic Alumna Award in 1965. She graduated from Christian College, Columbia MO in 1936 and completed her education with honors at the University of Oklahoma two years later.

She was a member of the Women's Committe for the Oklahoma Symphony and served on the board of directors of Oklahoma Science and Arts Foundation. Mrs Zahn was a member of the Junior League, Oklahoma Art Center, Uptown Kiwanis Wives Club, and served as deaconess on the board of Crown Heights Christian Church. She was 2nd vice president of Christian Women's Fellowship of her church and was on the board of Harding High School Parent Teacher Association and the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.

Services will be held at 2 pm Tuesday at Crown Heights Christian Church. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society, Phillips University in Enid, Crown Heights Christian Church, Presbyterian Hospital or the charity of the donor's choice.
