MRS. ALEX PARKER, PIONEER, IS DEAD
Came to Manitoba From Ireland in 1883— Funeral Arranged for Today
One of the pioneer residents of Sanford, Man., farming area, Mrs. Alex. Parker, died at her home. 845 Westminster avenue, Wednesday, after an illness, aged 73 years.
Mrs. Parker was born in Ireland, and came to Manitoba with her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. David Rogers (Rodgers), in 1883, 51 years ago. There were 11 children in the family and after a short sojourn in Winnipeg the family went to La Salle, now Sanford district, to take up farming, and were very successful. Later Miss Rogers (Rodgers) became acquainted with Alex. Parker, a young farmer in the locality, and they were married. Mr. Parker died nine years ago in Winnipeg after he had a few years earlier disposed
of his farm and retired, moving into Winnipeg with his family.
Four children survive: George Parker, Saskatoon, Sask., the only son and three daughters. Miss Bella. Miss
Ruth and Miss Grace Parker, all living in Winnipeg.
Of the 11 children in the family of Mr. and Mrs. David Rogers (Rodgers), only Mrs. Parker has died. The surviving members are: Thomas, John, Samuel Robert and Hill Rogers, all farming at Sanford, Man.; David lives at Greysville, Man.; Matthew lives in Winnipeg; and the four daughters in the family are: Mrs. A. McCurdy and Mrs. Pirt, wife of Dr. W. W. Pirt both of Winnipeg; Mrs. Sarah Fee of Headingly, and Mrs. John H. Parker, of Sanford.
Mrs. Parker was active in community work while living in the Sanford district, and since coming to Winnipeg
was a member of Westminster church, and attached to the women's organizations of the congregation, being a
generous and efficient worker.
The funeral will be held this afternoon. There will be a service at the home. 845 Westminster avenue, at 1 o'clock, which will be conducted by Rev. J. S. Bonnell. the minister assisted by Rev. A. Smith.
Following this service, there will be a second one in the United church at Sanford at 2.45 o'clock where
Rev. A. Moffitt, the minister will officiate, and he will be assisted by Rev. H. McKay. The funeral cortege will
motor to Sanford. Burial will be made in the family plot in Sanford cemetery. Thomson's mortuary has charge of the arrangements.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. PARKER ARE HELD FRIDAY
Services Conducted at Family Home in City and at Sanford, Man.
Six brothers were pallbearers at the funeral of their sister, Mrs. Alex Parker, 845 Westminster avenue, which
was held Friday afternoon from the residence to the cemetery at Sanford, Man.
These were: Thomas Rogers, John Rogers, Samuel Rogers, Robert Rogersand Hill, Rogers, all farmers at Sanford, and David Rogers, of Graysville, Man.
A service was held at 1 o'clock at the home, Westminster avenue, conducted by Rev. Dr. J. S. Bonnell,
minister of Westminster United church, of which Mrs. Parker was a member and a leading worker to the women's organizations of the congregation. Dr. Bonnell was assisted by Rev. A. Smith.
A lengthy cortage at the close of the city service went by motor cars to Sanford, where a second service
was held in the United church. Rev. A. Moffatt, the minister, officiated, assisted by Rev. H. McKay. Burial
was made in the family plot in Sanford cemetery. Thompson's mortuary had charge of the arrangements.
There were 13 children in the family of Mr. and Mrs. David Rogers when they arrived from Ireland in
Manitoba 51 years ago and settled in La Salle district, now known as Sanford. One. son, William J. Rogers, died 42 years ago in Morden, Man., and the death of Mrs. Parker was the first break in the children in that lengthy intervening period. Besides the six sons who were pallbearers, the other surviving members of the Rogers family are: Matthew Rogers, living in Winnipeg, and four daughters, Mrs. McCurdy, widow of Alex McCurdy, and Mrs. Pirt, widow of Dr. W. W. Pirt; both of Winnipeg: Mrs. McFee, widow of David
McFee,. Headingly, Man, and Mrs. Parker, widow of John. H. Parker, Sanford, Man. The four children of Mrs. Parker are: George Parker, of Saskatoon, Sask., who came to the city to attend the funeral of his mother, and Miss Belle, Miss Ruth and Miss Grace Parker, all of Winnipeg.
