Matthew Rodgers, real estate agent in Winnipeg for many years, died suddenly Wednesday evening at 113 Ethelbert street, at the age of 69. He was born in Ballymena, Ireland, and came to Canada with his parents in 1883, settling near Sanford, Man. They farmed there for many years and in his youth Mr. Rodgers taught school at several points in Manitoba. In 1903 he entered into partnership with R. N. Neely, under the name Neely-Rodgers Land Company. He had been active in the firm until the time of his death. He was a charter member and life member of the Assiniboine Lawn Bowling club and was past president of the Manitoba Lawn Bowling association. For 39 years, until 1933 he was associated actively with St. Paul's United church. His wife. Sarah, predeceased him in 1939 and he is survived by two sons, Lawrence A., of Winnipeg; Vivian M. with the Canadian active army, two grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Jean Pirt, Mary Parker, Mrs. Sarah McFee of 134 Arlington street, with whom he resided, all of Winnipeg: also five brothers, Hill, John, Robert, and Thomas, all of Sanford: David, Graysville, Man. The funeral service will be held Monday at 2:45 p.m. in Gardiner's funeral chapel, with burial in Elmwood cemetery.. Rev. C. H. Whitmore will conduct the service.
