Hyrum Berrett Summerhays, 74, died Jan 14, 1977, in a Salt Lake City hospital.
Born Oct, 9, 1902, Salt Lake City, to Joseph William and Sarah Berrett Summerhays. Married Colleen Hanley, Sept 26, 1945, later solemnized Salt Lake LDS Temple. Member LDS Church serving in many positions. Founded Summerhays Music Co., October 1936. Founded and was active in the Music Service Corp, Salt Lake Music, Music Corp. of Utah, Intermountain Keyboards, Provo Music, Hylon-Koburn, Skyline Chemical and at the time of his death was on the board of directors of Wykoff Truck Lines. Graduated from University of Utah, after serving mission to Central States Mission. Taught music in Starr Valley, Wyo., Salina and at Cyprus High School. Supervisor, music eduction in Washigton D.C., schools. Awarded the Service to Music Education ward in 1974 by the Utah Music Educators, Member Sigma Pi Franternity, Bonneville Knife and Fork and Newcomen Society.
Survivors: wife; 3 sons, 3 daughters, Lowell Vincent, Robert Scott, both Salt Lake City; Briant H., Provo; Mrs. Barry (Shelia) Woods, Lincoln, Neb.; Mrs. Ronald (Laurel) Bernier, Mrs. Roger (Lani) Firmage, both of Salt Lake City; 9 grandchildren brothers, Alma B., Lorenzo B., both of Sat Lake City; half brother, half sisters, Clyde J., John W., both Salt Lake City; Robert, Port Arthur, Wash.; Margaret, Mrs. Thomas (Besse) Auger, Napa, Calif.
Graveside services Tuesday 12:30 p.m., Bountiful Memorial Park. Friends may call Monday 6-8 p.m., Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple.
