Alma B Summerhays - Alma Berrett Summerhays 84, died April 16, 1977.
Born May 22, 1893 to Joseph William and Sarah Berrett Summerhays. Married Jennie Amella Brown June 14, 1917. He was the father of four children.
Worker in the Salt Lake Temple at the time of his death and for many years previous. Served the LDS Church in some capacity all his life. Participated in the growth of the church in California, serving as bishop's counselor in the Manchester Ward.
Personally participated in the construction of most of the early ward houses in the Southern California area. Served mission to the Hawaiian Island, during which time he also helped in the construction of the Hawaiian Temple on Oahu. Family historian of the Summerhays Family Society. Did extensive research into early pioneer history.
Was instrumental in helping to find mementos of the Prophet Joseph Smith, which the family donated to the Church. Extremely well versed in gospel doctrine, having in his possession many rare volumes of religious history.
Member, Liberty Park Ward at the time of his death. Taught gospel doctrine class in the ward for many years. Before retiring he worked as a conductor for the Pullman Co.
Survivors: son, daughters, Alma Brown, Bountiful, Vivian S Cooper, Thousand Oaks, Calif., Jay Woodland Hills, Calif., Peggy Taylor, Seattle, Wash., 13 grandchildren, 7 great - grandchildren; beloved brother Lorenzo B., Salt Lake City.
Funeral services Tuesday 1 p.m., Liberty Park Ward. Friends may call Monday 7-9 p.m. Russon Brothers Mortuary, 255-200 East and before services on Tuesday.
