A. Jay Chaplin married Eva Young, 6 Mar 1901, in Black Hawk Co., IA. They moved to Beadle county, SD and farmed land near Bonilla and Hitchcock, SD, owned by his father. The family is found in the 1905 SD state census and the 1910 federal census living there with their 3 sons, Glen, Dale and Clair, and one daughter, Cleo. The family then moved to Fargo, Cass county, ND. Jay moved back to Barclay Township, Black Hawk Co., IA, to the Chaplin family farm which he inherited upon his father's death in 1916. Jay married second to Minnie Bidwell Merrill in 1925. Jay was an invalid for several years before his death, as a result of a paralytic stroke, which affected his right leg and arm.
