A CALLING What calls us to find the ancestors? It goes beyond a simple curiosity. We are taken over, compelled, as if possessed by something bigger than us that's begging to be revealed. There is one of us in most every family, called to be the scribe. I am but one of the many in the long line of storytellers of our clan. Like others I have been called to gather and assemble the ancestors—to breathe life back into them as far back as we can reach. We take what we find and chronicle the facts of their existence, remembering their names and who they were and what they did. They are the sum of who we are, for without them, we would not exist. We greet those who came before us, restoring their place in the familial line. We scribe their stories and their histories. We search for them in public libraries, county records, and weed-filled or well-kept cemeteries. We comb through yellowed newspapers, family archives, and lovely old letters and photo albums. We find them! And in finding them, we find ourselves.

My brother Gordon Clemens and I are researching our family lines, he for years, I of late. He is more interested in the facts, I, the fancy...
Compiling four volumes, our records span from the sailings to America to our parents generation. Our main lines:
Henry HOY, Jr. & Mary Ann SMITH Finley McLaren CHAMBERLIN & Emily S. HOY I.W. CHATFIELD & Eliza Ann HARRINGTON Matthew S. CLEMENS & Barbara NIGON
I am also working on the SEVENAU/CLEMENT/KELLOGG & MACDONALD/McCARTNEY lines.
Always happy to connect with kin and fellow researchers to compare notes. It takes a village.
I love Find A Grave. It's like Facebook for the dead. A heartfelt thanks to all the Find A Grave photographers who have fulfilled my requests for headstone pictures of my kin and the others of you who have generously transferred your pages of the family to me. I am grateful for and enjoy the friendships, camaraderie, assistance, and humor that passes between and among us. Your gifts have filled missing gaps, corrected many errors, and answered numerous questions. My family thanks you also, as this is really a gift to them. To those handful of Find A Gravers I have somehow offended, irritated, or seemingly angered, my apologies. Miscommunication happens. It is not the upset that is the problem, it is how we choose to hold it. Regards, Catherine

 | RE: Charles Schabo Cedar Memorial Park, Iowa HAPPY THANKSGIVING. | | | Debra S. Fowler
 | Blair, Bouyssou Hello Cathy,
I noticed your memorial on Find A Grave for Lawrence Janisch. My half aunt, Lorraine Bouyssou was married to him. Of course I never knew her, but was estatic to see you were possibly related. I never knew my biological family and have been researching it the past 10 years.

 | RE: Mastick's in Fairview Park Cemetery, Ohio Catherine, I appreciate your sentiment (you will go to heaven). I just hope it isn't too soon as I'm not that old yet!
Seriously, I am glad I was able to help you and possibly others by documenting that cemetery. That is the true joy in doing this because sometimes it is someone else's work that connects me with one of my lost relatives. We all help each other. | | | Graveaddiction

 | Mastick Memorials Catherine,
I transferred the memorial you asked for. While searching I also found another female with that maiden name and transfered her as well. If you find any more in this cemetery, let me know and I'll transfer them as well.
Happy Holidays! | | | Jacki G.
 | RE: Charles Bras, Oakmont Memorial Park You're welcome. I'll do that now. I wasn't able to find Emily. The man at the cemetery that we talked to to get the location on Friday, was being difficult and he told my husband they were in the same plot. I will call again tomorrow and see if I can get a better location for her. There is another woman that works there that is very nice. If I can get a location for her, I will go back out there next weekend.Added by Jacki G. on Nov 16, 2009 12:27 AM | | | bookworm98
 | Richard Colvin No connection at all to this gentleman. I merely took the photo as I realized he was most likely her husband (location and their ages, etc.)
Transfer completed. | | | bookworm98
 | Barbara & Richard Colvin You're welcome.
If you'd like, I will transfer Richard's memorial to you. Let me know. | | | Detcele
 | RE: Maywood Cemetery, Aurora, Illinois Hi Catherine, Concerning Michael & Mary Reuland, I did not see their markers. As I was walking the cemetery I was searching for 7 names at once, so I most likely just missed their markers. Next time I am in Aurora I will be happy to check again. Take care, ronAdded by Detcele on Nov 12, 2009 11:19 PM | | | Jeff
