Eva "Evie" King was born on June 14, 1920 in Parksville, Boyle Co., Kentucky at her parent's home on Maple Grove Road, later known as Tennessee Ridge Road. Evie, who did not have a middle given name, was the daughter of Thomas Letcher "Tom" King (1881-1973) and Minna Susan "Minnie" Gooch (1884-1971), the ninth of their ten children.

Evie's parents moved their family from Kingtown, McCreary Co., KY to the Parksville area in 1916. They eventually settled on Tennessee Ridge where they resided on Tennessee Ridge Road for over 50 years. They are buried in the Parksville Cemetery.

Her father, Tom, was a coal miner in his early adult life but gave it up to become a full time farmer. Born in Whitley Co. (now McCreary Co.), KY, he was the son of Jackson "Jack" King (1842-1919) and Mary Ann "Polly" Stephens (1845-1910). Jack was born in Campbell Co., Tennessee but grew up in a part of Whitley Co., KY that is now part of McCreary County.

Tom's mother, Polly, was the daughter of Whitmill Stephens (abt 1809-abt 1866) and Elizabeth Waters (abt 1807-bet 1871/80). She was born in Mississippi where her family lived for just a few years in the mid-1840s. Polly lived all but those few early years in Kentucky and Tennessee.

Evie's father, Tom, was a paternal grandson of Enos King (abt 1816-bet 1892/00) & Nancy Ann Angel (abt 1820-bet 1892/00) and a great-grandson of Thomas Murray "Tom" King (1790-1800), whom he was named after. His great-grandmother was Mary Rebecca "Polly" Cox (1800-1881). Thomas Murray King was the patriarch of the King family in McCreary Co, KY having moved his family to the Marsh Creek area of lower Whitley Co. (now McCreary Co.) around 1819.

Evie's mother, Minnie (pronounced "My-nee"), was born just inside Knox Co., KY, not far from the small Whitley County community of Woodbine. Her parents were James Ellison Gooch (1855-1914) and Mary Ann "Polly" Williams (1854-1926). James was born in Glades, Pulaski Co., KY, Polly near Waynesburg in Lincoln Co., KY.

On Dec. 31, 1936, Evie married Estill Lee "Pete" Miller (1916-1996). Estill was 20 years of age, Evie 16. He was born in Honaker, Russell Co., Virginia. Pete's parents were Ambrose Parr "Ambers" Miller (1893-1953) and Ada Alice Honaker (1894-1890), both born in Russell Co., VA.

Evie and Pete were married for nearly 60 years and had twelve children, ten of them reaching adulthood. They were/are Elmer Thomas Miller (1938-1938), Ulla Morene Miller (1939-1984), Lola Diann Miller (1942-L ), Mitchell Glen Miller (1944-L ), Truman Lee Miller (1945-2013), Larry Keith Miller (1946-2018), Buford Arnold Miller (1948-L), Wanda Yvonne Miller (1949-1949), Wilma Maxine Miller (1951- L), Norman Steve Miller (1953-L ), Tony Ray Miller (1956-L ) and Kenneth Monroe "Kenny" Miller (1957-2020 ).

Evie's husband, Pete, died on Aug. 8, 1996 in Parksville, Boyle Co., KY at the age of 79. He is buried in the Parksville Cemetery. Evie also died at the age of 79 in Danville, Boyle Co., KY on Oct. 23, 1999. At the time she was a patient at the Danville Center of Health and Rehabilitation. She is buried in the Parksville Cemetery next to her husband, Pete. There is an inscription under both their names that says "SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS".

I remember my aunt Evie as a kind and gentle Christian woman. She was a loving mother, who though plagued with health problems of her own, always put her family first. Anytime my parents would visit she always wanted to cook us a big meal and would want us to take some of the food home with us. Evie always cared about other people.
