Estill Lee "Pete" Miller was born on Oct. 26, 1916 in Honaker, Russell Co., Virginia. He was the son of Ambrose Parr "Ambers" Miller (1893-1953) and Ada Alice Honaker (1894-1980). Pete's parents were born in Russell Co., VA. Parr died and his buried in Russell County. Ada died in Danville, Boyle Co., KY and is buried in Perryville Cemetery in Boyle Co., KY.
Estill's father, Parr, was the son of James C. "Jim" Miller (1865-1928) and Florence B. Sauls (1870-1922). Both of Pete's pat. grandparents were also born in Russell Co., VA.
His mother, Ada, was the daughter of Taze B. Honaker (1863-1944) and Margaret "Peggy" Hess (1865-1949). Both of his maternal grandparents were lifelong residents of Russell Co., VA, born, lived and died there.
Pete's parents divorced in 1919. On Oct. 14, 1920, his mother, Ada, married James Henry Ball (1887-1977) in Russell Co., VA. They moved to Parksville . Boyle Co., KY in the 1920s.
On Dec. 31, 1936, Pete married Eva "Evie" King (1920-1999) in Parksville, Boyle Co., KY. She was the daughter of Thomas Letcher "Tom" King (1881-1973) and Minna Susan "Minnie" Gooch (1883-1971). Evie was the ninth of their ten children. Pete was 20 years of age, Evie 16.
Evie's father, Tom, was born in Whitley Co. (now McCreary Co.), KY. Her mother, Minnie, was born just inside Knox Co., KY, not far from the little Whitley County community of Woodbine.
Evie's parents moved their family from Kingtown, McCreary Co., KY to Parksville, Boyle Co., KY in 1916 eventually settling on Tennessee Ridge. Evie was born about four years later (1920). Her parents lived and farmed on Tennessee Ridge for over fifty years.
Pete and Evie were married for nearly 60 years and had twelve known children. They are listed in her memorial.
Pete died on Aug. 8, 1996 in Parksville, Boyle Co., KY at the age of 79. He is buried in the Parksville Cemetery. Pete's wife, Evie, died about three years later on Oct. 23, 1999 in Perryville, Boyle Co., KY, also at the age of 79. She too, is buried in the Parksville Cemetery, next to her husband, Estill.
Estill and Evie share the same headstone with two of their children. Under their names is the inscription "SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS".
