Effie Miller was born on Mar. 6, 1914 in Honaker, Russell Co., Virginia. She was the daughter of Ambrose Parr "Ambers" Miller (1893-1953) and Ada Alice Honaker (1894-1980). Her parents were married for just a little over three years and Effie was the first of their two children. Both of Effie's parents were also born in Russell Co., VA, lived and died there.

Effie's father, Parr, was the son of James C. "Jim" Miller (1865-1928) and Florence B. Sauls (1870-1922), natives of Russell Co., VA. Effie's mother, Ada, was the daughter of Taze B. Honaker (1863-1944) and Margaret "Maggie" Hess (1865-1949). All four of Effie's grandparents were lifelong residents of Russell Co., VA.

Effie's parents divorced in 1919, after just a little over three years of marriage. Her mother, Ada, married James Henry Ball (1887-1977) in 1920. They moved from Russell Co., Virginia to Parksville, Boyle Co., Kentucky in the early 1920s.

Effie married Clarence Edward King (1912-1978) on Sept. 24, 1930 in Parksville, Boyle Co., KY. He was the son of Parksville residents, Thomas Letcher "Tom" King (1881-1973) and Minna Susan "Minnie" Gooch (1883-1971), who lived on Tenn. Ridge for 55+ years.

Effie's husband, Clarence, was born near the present day community of Kingtown in McCreary Co., KY. In 1916, when he was about four years of age, his parents migrated from Kingtown to Parksville, Boyle Co., KY, eventually settling on Tennessee Ridge. Most likely, they rode a railroad boxcar to Junction City in Boyle County and then moved by horse/wagon to the Parksville area. Clarence's father, Tom, had a McCreary Co. friend & cousin, William Whitmill Stephens (1869-1956), who had moved his family to the Parksville area with Joseph Martin "Joe Mart" Abbott (1968-1931) & his family abt 1912.

In 1936, Effie's brother, Estill "Pete" Miller (1916-1996), married Clarence's younger sister, Eva "Evie" King (1920-1999). Both families lived on Tank Pond Road in Parksville, KY.

Effie and Clarence had eight children before their divorce about 1940. Two of those children died in infancy. Their eight known children are listed in Clarence's memorial.

After their divorce, Effie, a devout Christian, did not remarry. She died on Jan. 14, 2007 at the age of 92 and is buried in the Perryville Cemetery (aka Hillcrest Cemetery) where her mother and step-father are buried.
