Elvin Byrd, of 122 Second Street, Oneida, passed away suddenly Tuesday afternoon, December 11, 1986, at his home. The son of the late Sherman Byrd and the late Rosetta Welch Byrd, he was a member of Oneida American Legion Post #136 and a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Reba Foster Byrd of Oneida; one son, Elmer Byrd of Knoxville; two daughters: Mrs. Paul (Darlene) Sheets of Warner of Warners, N. Y., and Mrs. Harold (Carol) Clark of Indianapolis, Ind.; three brothers: General Buddy Byrd, Willard Byrd, and Milford Byrd, all of Elgin; three sisters: Ada Goad, Ollie Byrd, and Lennie Cochran, all of Elgin; seven grandchildren; a special grandson-in-law, Billy Becker of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 14, in the West-Murley Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Kenneth Norris and Rev. John Shepherd officiating. The Bethlehem Baptist Church Choir and Scott Andrews sang. Burial was in the Concord Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Lloyd Cross, Odie Crabtree, Ralph Coffey, Bailey Cross, Torch Chitwood, and Bill Phillips. West-Murley Funeral Home in Oneida was in charge of the arrangements.
