John J. Schmitt, 73, a resident of Beaver Dam and its immediate vicinity for many years, passed away in death at St. Joseph hospital here at 11:15 o'clock last Friday night following a brief illness.

The deceased was born in the town of Theresa in this county on November 15th, 1868, and was married on November 14th, 1893, to Theresa Hartl. He had made his home in the town of Beaver Dam for 54 years, and then in this city.

His wife, four sons and two daughters survive him. The children are Henry of the town of Lowell; Christian of the town of Westford; Peter and Anton of the town of Beaver Dam; Mrs. William Ferstl of the town of Westford and Mrs. Joseph Leech of this city. He is also survived by a brother and four sisters, Miss Margaret Schmitt of this city; Miss Anna Schmitt of Ripon; Sister Diguna of Peoria, Ill.; Sister M. Ercola of Bellville, Ill., and twenty-five grandchildren. Three sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Theo. Rohner at St. Peter church at 9:30 o'clock Tuesday morning. Interment was in St. Peter cemetery.
