DIED - SCHMITT - At his home on South street at 6:50 p.m. Thursday, December 3, 1908, Mr. Christian Schmitt, aged 78 years, 3 months and 18 days.

Deceased was born at Heddesheim, Prussia, on August 15, 1830. He came to this country in July, 1858, and settled in the town of Theresa, where he was united in marriage with Mary Haas on the 10th of June, 1860. They moved to the town of Beaver Dam in 1879 and resided there until 1891, when they came to this city, where they have since made their home.

Thirteen children were born to this union, nine of whom survive, with his widow, to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father. The children are Mrs. Jacob Blankl [sic Plankl], of the town of Lowell; Jacob and John Schmitt, of the town of Beaver Dam; Theresa and Agnes, at the Notre Dame convent, and Mrs. Joseph G. Fischer, Mrs. Lawrence H. Gocker and the Misses Maggie and Annie Schmitt, of this city. The other children were Laura, who died in the town of Theresa, January 16, 1874, aged 11 years; Mrs. Mary Rosenmeier, who died October 22, 1889; Joseph, who died December 2, 1880, and Ludwig, who died October 17, 1889.

The funeral was held from St. Peter's church at 9:30 o'clock, Monday morning, December 7th; burial in St. Peter's cemetery.
