Scott S. McKnight, 81, longtime resident of Nampa, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2006, at St. Luke's Hospital in Meridian. Scott was born July 25, 1924, in Lewiston, Cache Valley, Utah to Joseph and Gertrude McKnight. He graduated from North Cache High school in 1942. In 1944 he moved with his family to Nampa, where they purchased a farm east of town. In 1946 he married LaRue Yorgason and moved to Melba where they farmed. After purchasing the homestead on the corner of Amity and Happy Valley Road in 1959, Scott and LaRue, with their three small children, relocated to Nampa. This began a 30 year effort to make their corner blossom like a rose. Soon after moving to Nampa, a fourth child completed the family. Scott worked as a millwright for Union Seed Co. where he was contracted out for work in Idaho, Utah, Nevada, and Oregon building grain and seed storage facilities. He and LaRue purchased Durobilt Generator in 1971, a small one-man business which, through many hours of hard work and determination, grew into a profitable family business where they worked together until 1986. Throughout his life Scott held many positions in his church, including serving with LaRue as workers in the Boise Idaho Temple, and full-time missionaries on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, UT. Scott had a beautiful tenor voice and generously shared it. He sang with the Boise-based male chorus, the Mormonaires, for many years, touring the western states as soloist for that group. He and Larue have given thousands of hours of musical service including teaching classes, directing choirs and singing for funeral services and weddings. In his retirement years Scott assisted in funeral services at Alsip and Zeyer Funeral Homes. He had a knack for meeting new acquaintances and making long-lasting friendships. He was known for his integrity, his reliability, his honesty and his willingness to serve.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Larue; four children: Terry (Debra) of Boise; Linda (Doug) Henry of Walla Walla, WA; Randy of Nampa; and Bart (Alane) of Nampa; 13 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Mary (Zollinger) of Logan, UT; Roma (Hemsley) of Pocatello; and Pat (Barson) of Meridian; and three sisters-in-law: Althea McKnight (Joe); Ella McKnight (Paul); and Pearl McKnight (Bruce). He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
