Randall "Randy" S. McKnight, 65, of Nampa, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017.
Randall Scott McKnight was born February 6, 1952 to Scott & LaRue McKnight. He was the 3rd child, joining Terry and Linda. This small family shared good times on a small farm in Melba. In 1960 they moved to Grandpa Joseph and Grandma Gertrude McKnight's homestead in Nampa, on the corner of Amity and Happy Valley. Randy was born into a musical family and could be heard singing wherever he happened to be. In 1961, when Randy was 9, Bart was born, making the family complete. Randy graduated in 1970 from Nampa High School where he played the French Horn, was Drum Major, and sang whenever he had the opportunity.
Randy served a 2-year mission to Argentina for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He attended Ricks College and BYU, and sang in their Freedom Singer touring group. He was very active in the LDS Institute in Boise where he sang in many groups including the Sounds of Harmony.
Randy worked for several years for the old Consumers grocery store on 14th Avenue South in downtown Nampa. Later he joined his father at the family business, Scotty's Duro-Bilt Generator, and became partners with his younger brother. He later managed a Blimpies sandwich at the Nampa Rec Center and eventually worked as the superintendent's secretary and Clerk of the Board for the Nampa School District and was still with the Nampa School District working at the physical facilities department at the time of his passing. He held many Church positions, but his favorite was Executive Secretary to his Bishop.
He was a vital part of Majors & Minors singing group for many years, but his favorite was singing bass forming a quartet with his Dad and 2 brothers. Randy was quick to share his candy and a laugh and smile. He moved in with his parents in their later years to care for them and was a very loving and devoted son.
Randy suffered for many years from physical ailments and depression until Sunday, September 17, 2017 when he tired of this mortal life. He was preceded in death by his father, Scott; his mother, LaRue; and his older brother, Terry. He is survived by his older sister Linda and his younger brother Bart.
An informal gathering for family and friends will take place from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, September 21 at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd in Nampa. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 22 at Cloverdale Memorial Park, 1200 N. Cloverdale Rd in Boise.
