Pat was born on 14 November 1931 in Lewiston, Utah. She was the eighth of nine children born to Joseph and Gertrude (Spackman) McKnight. The McKnights moved to Nampa in 1944. The Barsons moved to Nampa in 1949 and shortly Pat and Vaughn met. They were sealed in June 1953 in the Logan Temple.
Pat worked alongside Vaughn on the family farm for most of their married lives. She was at ease driving farming equipment, milking cows or doing any other farm chores. Three boys, Lyle, Neil and Ross, were born in due time.
Pat served in various positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. Pat and Vaughn were able to serve a mission for the Church in Carlsbad, California. They spoke frequently and with fondness of “their” missionaries.
Pat was well known for her cooking. Whenever family members came to visit, they immediately headed for her homemade bread, Fairy Cookies, a piece of fresh pie and a bowl of Schwann’s ice cream, but not necessarily in any particular order. Whichever they got to first was sufficient. Spudnuts was the traditional Halloween fare and rarely lasted the night.
Pat is survived by her husband, Vaughn; two sons, Neil (Julie) and Ross (Peggy); sister, Roma (Hemsley); sister-in-law, Pearl (McKnight); seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Her son, Lyle, preceded her along with her parents, five brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 20, 2016 at the Meridian 5th Ward chapel located at 2555 Stoddard Road in Meridian, Idaho. A viewing will be held in the Relief Society room from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Graveside services will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the Clarkston City Cemetery in Clarkston, Utah.
