Bishop Joseph McKnight, 81, Nampa, died at his home Tuesday afternoon following an extended illness. Bishop McKnight was born Feb. 8, 1888, in Riccarton, Scotland, and was reared in Scotland. He came to Salt Lake City when he was 19 years of age. He later moved to Logan, Utah, and then to Lewiston, Utah. He was married to Gertrude Spackman in the Logan L.D.S. Temple on Dec. 21, 1910. They lived in Lewiston until coming to Nampa in 1944 where he farmed east of Nampa. He was very active in the L.D.S. Church, since joining it in Scotland in 1906. He served as bishop of the First and Third Wards from 1946 to 1951, and also served as Sunday school teacher, stake mission president, and high councilmen. He was a member of the Meridian Second Ward L.D.S. Church.
Mr. McKnight is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gertrude McKnight, Nampa; five sons, William Henry McKnight, Nampa, Joseph L. McKnight, Caldwell, Paul S. McKnight, Cornish, Utah, Scott S. McKnight, Nampa, and Bruce McKnight, Lincoln, Mont.; four daughters, Mrs. Meldon (Ruth) Karren, Pleasanton, Calif., Mrs. Chester (Mary) Zollinger, Providence, Utah, Mrs. Thomas (Roma) Hemsley, Pocatello, and Mrs. Vaughn (Pat) Barson, Nampa; one sister, Mrs. Agnes VanOrden, Ogden, Utah; 42 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandsons.
