Lauren Magee Funeral Rites Held Sunday

Funeral services for Lauren Magee, 88, retired building contractor and former Columbian, were held at 3 p. m. Sunday from the chapel of Colonial Funeral Home with Dr. Howard Aultman, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Special music included a vocal solo by the Rev. Ronald E. Connally, pastor of the First Assembly of God, "Beyond The Sunset," and "Precious Memories," sung by the Broom Quartet of Bethel. Mrs. J. T. Waldrop was organist.
Interment was in the family plot in Columbia Cemetery under direction of Colonial Funeral Home with grandsons and nephews of Mr. Magee as pallbearers.
Mr. Magee died at his home in Marietta, Ga. At 5 a. m. February 18 after a lengthy illness.
A native of Jefferson Davis County, he was born January 8, 1878, son of Thomas Jefferson and Mary A. Broom Magee. He was reared near Bassfield and came to Columbia about 1921 and operated a building contracting business retiring about 20 years ago. During World War he had helped build Camp Shelby when that installation was established. He had made his home in Marietta for the past twenty year and was a member of a Baptist Church in Marietta.
His first wife, the former Ettie Sullivan, died in 1925 and later he was married to Miss Eva Thomas of Marietta. They resided in Jackson a few years before going to Marietta to make their permanent home.
A daughter, Mrs. Eunice Gallo of New Orleans, preceded her father in death 20 years ago.
Surviving are his wife of Marietta; three daughters, Mrs. Emma Bruce and Mrs. Ona Barnes of New Orleans and Mrs. Nona McDaniel of Hesperia, Calif.; six sons, Burnia Magee of Quincy, La., Ernest magee of Corpus Christi, Texas, W. G. Magee of Houston, Texas, Ulmer Magee of Saraland, Ala., Lavelle Magee of San Francisco, Calif., and Buell Magee of Jackson; one sister, Mrs. Lula Wilks of Gulfport; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
