Albert F. Bohlken was a native of Plymouth county, Iowa. He served in the original Company K of the Iowa National Guard. Albert served his country in the Mexican Border War and with the Rainbow Division in France in World War I.

On Dec. 25, 1919, Albert married Jessie Colson in Plymouth county Iowa. Soon after, he and Jessie moved to a farm near Lisbon, Ransom county, North Dakota.

In 1936, they purchased the Gamble store in Lisbon which became the Bohlken Hardware and Furniture store.

Albert was a charter member of the Civic and Commerce Association, past commander of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Masonic Lodge, and the Presbyterian Church.

Jessie and Albert were the parents of two sons, Willis and Robert, and one daughter, Helen.
