John R. Thomazin, 61, of 416 S. Arthur died Saturday in an Omaha hospital.

Services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Grand Island Cemetery. Visitation hours are Monday from 1 to 9 p.m. at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Fund.

Mr. Thomazin was born May 29, 1914, at Lindsay to William and Matilda [sic] Borne Thomazin. He attended Platte County rural grade schools and graduated from Columbus High School.

On April 9, 1939, he was married to Marie Larson at Newman Grove. They moved to Grand Island in 1946, where Mr. Thomazin was associated with the John Dee Co., until forming a partnership with his son, Robert, to create the Thomazin Co. in 1969.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the church choir, past president of the Grand Island Board of Relators [sic], Nebraska Real Estate Association, chamber of commerce and Greater Grand Island Development Corporation, secretary of the Grand Island Hotel Corporation, member of three presidents club, industrial foundation, Hall County Regional Planning Commission and chairman of the cancer drive.

Survivors include his widow, Marie; a son Robert J. of Grand Island; a daughter, Mrs. Clark (Jean) Russell of Carson City, Nev.; a brother, Edgar of Genoa; three sisters, Mrs. LaVerna Reeg and Mrs. Ferd (Odetta) Pearson, both of Genoa and Mrs. Oscar (Charlotte) Christensen of Geneseo, Ill., and six grandchildren.
