Marie Thomazin

Marie O. Thomazin, 79, of 416 S. Arthur, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, at her home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The Rev. John Douglas Russell will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Grand Island Hospice.

Mrs. Thomazin was born Oct. 1, 1915, at Newman Grove to Andrew and Emma (Vaage) Larson. She grew up in Newman Grove and graduated from Newman Grove High School.

She married John Thomazin on April 9, 1939, at Newman Grove. The couple lived in Columbus and Norfolk before moving in 1945 to Grand Island, where she was a homemaker. From 1972 until her retirement in 1994, she was a secretary for the Thomazin Co.

Mrs. Thomazin was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the church choir for 35 years and the Mary Circle at the church. She was also one of the first volunteers for the American Cancer Society, driving patients to Hastings for treatment.

Survivors include one son, Robert Thomazin of Grand Island; one daughter, Jean Russell of Carson City, Nev.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jane Gatten of Allegan, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers.
