Charles Virgil Poor moved south to early Arizona territory to take up mining. He married 1 Oct 1897 in Clifton, AZ Elizabeth Hessel, the daughter of Augustus J. Hessel and Anna Margaret Simon. They had twin girls born 8 Apr 1900 in Clifton, AZ but he had become ill from mining and lost his job. He took off for Montana (where his mother and several married sisters lived) to seek employment saying he would bring his wife and girls up when he found work, but he was not heard from again. Oral history of the family says that Elizabeth Hessel received a letter from a doctor in Montana saying that he had died there. No grave has been found. His widow, Elizabeth (Hessel) Poor began spelling her name Pore after his death and moved to early San Diego where she bought a house in 1907 in which to raise her twin daughters. Of note is the fact that his mother's obituary when she died in 1907 stated that Charles was 'somewhere in Mexico' so his mother and sisters in Butte, MT were unaware he had died.
