Wesley was the 9th, of eleven children born to Cornelius 6th and Sarah (Hill) Vanover. He married Martha Fleming, daughter of John Jackson Fleming and Mary Jane Mullins, on July 29, 1860. Wesley was a farmer and they lived on the old home-place that had been settled by his parents in the 1840's - At the mouth of George's Fork; south side of the Pound River.

Wesley served in the UNION army; Co. K 39th Kentucky Infantry, during the Civil War. He applied for his Civil War Pension on May 2, 1902. His father-in-law, John Jackson Fleming, fought for the South during the Civil War.

Wesley and Martha had 9 children:
1. Clarinda Dennis (m. Alex Mullins)
2. William Lloyd (m. Vanetta Aldridge)
3. Charlotte O. (m. (1) Will Mullins, and (2) Charlie Reed)
4. Noah Larkin (m. Mary Ellen Belcher)
5. Mary "Polly" Ann (m. Noah Mullins)
6. CREED MONROE (m. (1) Izetta Fleming, and (2) Ona "Onie" (Bolling) Stewart)
7. Cornelius J. (m. (1) Florence Fleming, and (2) Mattie Hunsaker)
