John's birth and baptism (as Johannes) were recorded in Sources and Documents of the Pennsylvania Germans: VIII, Records of Pastoral Acts at Emanuel Lutheran Church, known in the eighteenth century as the Warwick Congregation, near Brickerville, Elizabeth Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania 1743-1799, 1983, The Pennsylvania German Society, p. 143. John Adams, Sr dec'd. The petition of Barbara Adams & Peter Kofroth, Admnrs. of John Adams Sr. late of Warwick twp. dec'd Respectfully Represents that the said John Adams Sr. died intestate left a widow your petitioner and these 12 children to wit: Polly married to Henry Keehl, Susanna married to Peter Kofroth your petitioner, Catherine married to John Share, George, Peter, John, Daniel, Jacob, Isaac and Samuel Adams, a minor, Reuben Adams (minor) and Frederick Adams a (minor). That the personal estate of said intestate is insufficient for the payment of his debts as by the account herewith produced amounts to $505.00 and that the said intestate died seized in his demesne as of fee of and in a certain Messuage and tract of land situate in Warwick twp. containing 21 acres more or less adjoining property of Christian Grube & others. Your petitioners therefore pray your Honors to grant them an order to make sale of the said Messciage and small tract of land for the payment of the debts of the said intestate. To the truth of the facts as set forth your petitioner was duly affirmed.

Whereupon the Court order and direct the Administrators of said dec'd to expose to sale by public venue or outcry the Real Estate above mentioned on the 21st day of September 1849 on the premises.

"We the undersigned Administrators in pursuance of the written order of sale, exposed the within premises to public sale, at the time and place within mentioned, having first given due public and timely notice of the time and place aforesaid as required by law, sold the same to Gideon Bergenbein at and for the sum of six hundred and thirty two dollars, he being the highest and best bidder and that the highest and best price bidden for the same, They therefore pray the court to confirm the sale so made. Whereupon the Court confirm the sale and d.... the premises sold to him the said Gideon Bergenbein his heirs and asisgns in fee as fully as the said deed had and held the same..."
