The following information is from contributor Dennis Brandt (member #47232334):
"The son of Johannes & Barbara (Heiser) Adams, in 1860 he was a carpenter living with and/or working for farmer Samuel Oberholtzer in Warwick Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
A Civil War veteran, he served two terms of service with three regiments:
1. Drafted at the stated age of thirty-eight in Lancaster County November 3, 1862, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg November 7 as a private with Co. E, 178th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and honorably discharged with his company July 27, 1863.
2. Enlisted at the stated age of twenty-eight and mustered into federal service at Lancaster August 22, 1864, as a private with Independent Battery C Pennsylvania Light Artillery. On January 12, 1865, he transferred to Battery I, 5th Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery (204th Pa), and honorably discharged with his battery June 30, 1865.
He is listed as thirty-eight years of age on the 5th Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery company register, so the twenty-eight age in the Independent Battery C company register is almost certainly a clerical error. His pension indexes make no mention of his service with Independent Battery C.
In 1870, he was living with his family in Juniata County but shortly thereafter they returned to Lancaster County. "
