James Thomas Chittum, 88, of Buena Vista died Friday, 28 July 1972, in Stonewall Jackson Hospita. Born Feb. 6, 1884 in Rockbridge County, he was the son of the late Andrew Chittum and Sarah Hostetter Chittum.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Laurabell Hartless of Buena Vista, Mrs. Florence McKemy of Boonesboro, Md. and Mrs. Ellen Gianetti of Baltimore, Md.; seven sons, Bruce Chittum, John Chittum and Grover Chittum of Buena Vista, Sam Chittum, Roy Chittum and James Chittum of Baltimore and Cecil Chittum of Portsmouth; three brothers, George Chittum and Sylvester Chittum of Buena Vista and Edward Chittum of Fairfield; two sisters, Mrs. Cora McManama and Mrs. Anna Hostetter, of Buena Vista; 48 grandchildren; 120 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Glenn Odell conducted a funeral service Monday at 2 p.m. at the Church of the' Living God in Cornwall. Burial was in Spring Valley Cemetery.
