GREENSBURG, Ind. — Ernest R. "Ernie" Haston, 83, Greensburg, went to be with his Lord on Nov. 5, 2010, at Ashford Place, in Shelbyville, after an extended illness.
He was born March 25, 1927, in Sparta, Tenn., and had served his country with the United States Army.
Ernie had previously been general manager for Pay Less Super Markets and owned Chicken Dinner Express. He later owned Ranch Supermarkets and Diamond Supermarket. He was a past president of Indiana Retail Grocers' Association, on the board of Fifth Third Bank and was a supermarket consultant. He owned Ohio River Realty & BOKA Shop, Circle Printing Co. and was a special sheriff's deputy for Decatur County and was also on the Merit Board.
He had many collections, most recently Cracker Barrel items.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Betty (Schlabach) Haston; children, Dr. M. Susan Haston of Pensacola, Fla., Marc (Faye) Haston, and Eric (Vickie) Haston, all of Greensburg; siblings, Bill Haston of Anderson, David (Sue) Haston of Tennessee, and Marcia (Steve) Bowers of Anderson; grandchildren, Erica Haston, Suzanne (Mark) Campfield, Adam Haston and Joey Haston; two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Nathan Campfield; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Smith and Ethel (Dodson) Haston; son, Greg Haston and siblings, Margaret Swafford, Mary Ockoman, twin, James Haston, Doug Haston and Mildred Cochran.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home, Greensburg, and from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Robert D. Loose Funeral Home, Anderson.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Home, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson, with the Rev. Fred Shelton officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson, with military rites by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 266.
