David was born July 4, 1939 in the Big Bottom Community of White County to the late Smith and Ethel Dodson Haston.
At the age of 5 years, his family moved to Anderson, Indiana. He attended Anderson High School before joining the U.S. Marines in 1956. After serving in the Marines, he was a proud member of the Anderson Fire Department in Anderson, Indiana for 26 years, retiring in 1990. He had a passion for wood-working, making doll houses and bird houses out of reclaimed barn wood.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Swafford, Mary Ockomon and Mildred Cochran; brothers, Ernest Haston, James Haston and Douglas Haston; nephews Greg Haston and Scotty Haston.
He is survived by his wife Sue Haston of Sparta
Daughters: Deanna & Dan Smith of Muncie, IN, Kathy & Doug Phillips of Kinston, N.C., Gail Haston of Montrose, CA, Beth Haston of Fishers, IN, Valerie & Kenneth Wood of Crossville, TN, Holly & Phillip Irvin of Cookeville, TN
Sons: David Haston of Burnside, KY, Shane Haston of Huntington, IN, Darryl & JoAnn Hensley of Quebeck, TN

Funeral service will be conducted 1:00pm Wednesday, March 15, 2017 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Graveyard Ridge Cemetery in Van Buren County with full military honors rendered by the Veterans' Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11:00am until time of service at 1:00pm. Pastor Doug Phillips, Skip Ockomon, Joseph Hensley and Wayne Sullivan will officiate.
Jesse Clouse, Geof Dyer, Bub Ethchison, Shane Haston, Ethan Hensley, Ben McKenney, David Haston, Patrick Phillips, Haston Pawlik and Matthew Watson will serve as pallbearers.
