Lifelong Resident Passes July 30th
Funeral Tuesday for Mrs. Minnie Elizabeth Long
Minnie Elizabeth (McDonald) Long, daughter of Alexander and Susan McDonald was born May 14, 1876 in Scio, Oregon and passed away at her home here on Friday, July 30, at 11:30 p.m. after a long illness at the age of 72 years.
Her grandparents were Nathaniel Green and Rebecca J. McDonald, early pioneers who crossed the plains in 1846 and settled in the Oregon Territory. On October 15, 1893 she was united in marriage to Norman Long in Scio. In 1899 they became members of Providence Baptist Church and later had their membership transferred to the Scio Baptist Church, where they attended faithfully as long as they were able. To this union the following 8 children were born, Archie and Max Long of Eugene, Delbert Long of Salem, Willard Long of Albany, Mrs. Bill Sims and Mrs. Glen Thurston of Scio, Mrs. Sam Stoller of Albany and Mrs. Grace Thurston of Newport.
She has always been a kind and loving wife and mother and a true friend and neighbor. The following relatives are left to mourn her death, besides her husband Norman and the 8 surviving children: there are 18 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She leaves 3 brothers, Frank McDonald of Redmond, Roy McDonald of Aumsville and Ralph McDonald of Scio and 2 sisters, Anna Fletcher of Hebo and Alice Munsey of Albany and a large number of relatives and a host of friends.
On October 15, 1947 Mr. and Mrs. Long celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary and have spent most of their lives in Linn County and have always been interested in the development and growth of a better community.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. August 3 at the Scio Baptist church with Rev. V. L. Loucks officiating. Music was by Mr. and Mrs. Ed Drapela of Lebanon and Mrs. Howard Paschall of Scio. Pallbearers were Roy Thurston, Claude Kendle, Joe Schultz, Malcolm Miller, Al Plummer and Lonard Arnold. Interment was in Miller Cemetery, in charge of Howe-Huston Funeral Home.
