Delilah was the daughter of Ira Jones Marble and Nancy Cassandra Freeman. Her father's family lived in Jefferson County and later Yazoo. It was said that Ira J. and Nancy met near the county line of Jefferson and Claiborne.

Delilah was a smart and astute. She sewed her children's clothing, had a vegetable garden and grew "American Beauty" roses.

Delilah and her daughter, Floy, recorded and shared the family history. It's because of Delilah that the Marble, Freeman and P Poole history was written down. (Floy McKay Williams, Frank F. McKay Jr., the census, Delilah's diary, news articles and letters)
