From his sister, Floy: "Marshall was a handsome, jolly person, affable—who talked and laughed a lot. Like his father, when he formed an opinion right or wrong, it was hard to convince him otherwise. He wasn’t tall, just average height." from Floy, his younger sister.

He was born at home, near Branywine (or Hervey) Claiborne County, Mississippi, the third child of Ira Zeno McKay and Delilah E. Marble.

Marshall met Miss Norma Gilleylen when she came to stay the area in order to teach school. They gathered at church suppers and Norma visited his mother in their nice home.

He was a member of a Masonic Order and was "high up in it, a Night's Templer."

Marshall was very close to his youngest son, Bobby. When the son died in action in World War II it was very hard on him and on the family.

Marshall's farm was located around Waverly, near Delhi, Louisiana and was 550 acres or more. He loved to farm and was successful. Grew a lot of cotton and other crops.

He was in the hospital before he died and his daughter in law, Katherine helped to care for him at the time. Marshall died at age of 63, of a Cerebral Thrombosis.
