NICHOLAS J. STEMPER (d. 1960)

Nicholas J. Stemper, 85, of 2011 Wisconsin Ave., New Holstein, died Friday at his home following a lingering illness.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Erbe-Hoffman Funeral Home, New Holstein, and at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. The Rev. Lambert Scanlan will officiate and burial will be in the cemtery at St. Anna.
Mr. Stemper was born May 15, 1874, at Port Washington, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Stemper. He attended district shcool there and choose farming as a lifetime occupation. Mr. Stemper moved to New Holstein 15 years ago following retirement.
He married the former Ottilia Pfranz April 16, 1901, at Plymouth. She died Dec. 17, 1959. Mr. Stemper was a member of the Holy Name Society of Holy Rosary Church. A daughter and a son preceded him in death.
Survivors include three sons, Alvin of Newton, Raymond of Elkhart Lake and Edwin of New Holstein; five daughters, Mrs. Olive Huebschman of Random Lake, Mrs. Joseph Grasser of New Holstein, Mrs. Peter Pierre of Techny, Ill., Mrs. Otto Hendrich of Evanston, Ill., and Mrs. Lawrence Nolsen of Skokie, Ill.; a brother, John of Kiel; two sisters, Mrs. Edwin Hass of St. Paul, Minn., and Mrs. Albert Kohler of Barton, Wis., and 37 grandchildren.
Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Sunday where the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.
