Obituary: Albany Enterprise, Albany, Stearns, Minnesota, 16 August 1945
Memorial services for Sgt. Vernon Hofmann, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hofmann of this Village, will be held next Saturday morning August 18th when a Solemn Requiem High Mass will be sung in Seven Dolors at 9 o'clock. Military honors will be in charge of the Albany American Legion with members of the armed forces at home on furlough in attendance.
Sgt. Hofmann who served as an air gunner was reported missing in action over Germany last April 7th and official announcement of his death was made last week.

Note: Vernon was a radio operator/gunner on a bomber that was rammed by a German Messerschmidt which split his bomber in two. He parachuted out but his parachute failed to open in time.
