Columbia - Funeral Mass for Victor Roger Hofmann, 81, will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Final Commendation and Farewell prayers in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery. A rosary will be recited Sunday at 7 p.m. with visitation following until 9 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Diocese of Charleston for Seminary Fund or South Carolina Citizens for Life.
Mr. Hofmann, husband of the late Catherine Agnes King Hofmann, died Thursday, August 24, 2006. Born in Albany, N.Y., [sic, Minnesota] he was a son of the late Francis and Gertrude Ohmann Hofmann.
He retired from the United States Air Force as a Major and served in WW II. He served as Principal of St. Peter's Catholic School and taught at C.A. Johnson High School and Spring Valley High School. He was an avid golfer and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Surviving are his sons, Pat Hofmann and his wife, Dale, of Surfside Beach, and Monsignor Tom Hofmann of Charleston; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Kay and Michael Palyok of Columbia, Coleen and George Collins of Lexington, Maria and John Gehringer of Columbia, Teresa and Mark Shelley of Columbia, and Paula and Patrick O'Gorman of Elgin; brothers, Anthony Hofmann of St. Cloud, Minn., and Robert Hofmann of Cottage Grove, Minn; sisters, Helen Crow [sic, Crowe] of Eau Clair, [sic, Claire] Wis., Lola Hemker of Melrose, Minn., and Clara Baggenstoss of Atlantic, Iowa, and Mary Ann St. Arnault of Centennial, Conn.; 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Paul Hofmann.
