TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES, N.M. - Norman S. Archer, 86, of Truth or Consequences, N.M., died Jan. 29, 1991, after a brief illness.

He was born in Parkersburg, a son of the late Stephen T. and Clara E. Archer. he lived in Parkersburg and was employed at American-Viscose until he moved to New Mexico in 1949. He served in the U.S. Navy as a boatswain's mate prior to that. After moving to Albuquerque he was employed at a Los Alamos facility. After retirement he moved to Truth or Consequences. he was a noted gunsmith both locally and in the Mid-Ohio Valley and served as a deputy sheriff for a period of time. He was a Shriner in the Ballut Abyad Temple.

He is survived by his wife, Mary U. Archer; one brother, Alan Archer of Parkersburg; and one sister, Luella Wharton of Vienna.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Fielder Archer; three brothers, Walter and Frank, of Parkersburg and Raymond of Richmond, Ind.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the French Mortuary in Truth or Consequences with the Rev. Kenneth Stohner officiating. Burial will be at p.m. Wednesday at the Fairview Park Cemetery in Albuquerque.
